Mr. Mathis has performed in Regional theaters across the country in productions such as: Animal Crackers at The Goodman in Chicago, Death Of A Salesman at Yale Rep, Radio Golf at Kansas City Rep, Gem Of The Ocean directed by Phylicia Rashad at Seattle Rep, Fences at Bristol Riverside Theater in Penn, Master Harold And The Boys Triad Theater in Greensboro N. Carolina. Blues For An Alabama Sky at Cleveland Playhouse, Ruined at The Florida Studio Theater in Sarasota. Cinderella at Papermill Playhouse in New Jersey and The Ogunquit Theater in Ogunqit Maine, starring Leslie Uggams. Off-Broadway credits include: 2006 Audelco Award for Real Black Men Don’t Sit Crosslegged On The Floor, Elegies For Angels, Punks and Ragng Queens at T.W.E.E.D. and “ResurGents, The Reappearence Of Hope at The Dwyer Theater in Harlem. TV appearances include Late Night With Conan O’Brien, Saturday Night Live, Law & Order and Law & Order Criminal Intent.

 

 

Film appearances: Dark Streets, Magic Sticks, Santa Baby starring Gregory Hines, Vanessa L. Williams and Patti LaBelle, and Sundance winner Brother To Brother, as well as voice-overs and commercials. When not on stage Mr. Mathis is a Teaching Artist working with Rosie O’Donald’s “Broadway Kids,” Sacred Hearts Arts Program and The Brazo Valley troupe Theater in Bryan, Texas. Mr. Mathis has directed and choreographed for these organizations shows such as Westside Story, Little Shop Of Horrors, Jelly’s Last Jam and You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown as well as teaching acting and dance.

Mathis studied Musical Theater at Washington International College in D.C., at Cynthia Belgraves Studios and HB Studios in NY. He also was a member of Ebony Impromtu Theater Company in D.C. and danced with The Charles Moore African Dancers And Drummers in Brooklyn, NY.
